The Virai Lirysians are one of the alien races in Tales of the Tai-Pan Universe. They are physically similar to the Beta Starans and it is believed that they may be descendants of an ancient Beta Staran colony.
Their society consists of a very regimented caste system determined by genetics, although an upper caste member's power is determined by how many members of a lower caste have pledged their loyalty. The Virai Lirysians are also very xenophobic, only allowing off-worlders to dock at restricted stations. Not much else is known about them other than it is the common belief that they may have perfected warp capability on their own.
