Tom Nook

Tom Nook is a male Tanuki character from each of the Animal Crossing video games. He was the shopkeeper in games prior to New Leaf, and is also responsible for the construction of the player character's house. His construction of the player's house however results in Tom Nook charging the player a loan, placing the player in debt.

In New Leaf, Tom Nook became the head of Nook's Homes, a real estate business. The player character in Happy Home Designer can work for Nook's Homes to design housing for various villagers. In New Horizons, Tom Nook starts a new company known as Nook Inc., a business that specializes in deserted island real estate development, and sells "Deserted Island Getaway Package" to the player and villagers. As the main owner of the player's island, he is therefore responsible for infrastructure projects, including the moving of buildings, construction of bridges and inclines, and (if the Happy Home Paradise DLC is installed) the remodeling of villager's houses. Tom Nook also provides the player a NookPhone for various apps, the Nook Miles program for rewards after completing an achievement, Nook Shopping for catalog access, and the Bank of Nook services for interest payments and currency management.
