A folf, also known as a pholph,[1] is a fictional anthropomorphic hybrid species, made up of a cross between a fox and a wolf.

Overview[edit]

In real life, this type of crossbreeding is not biologically possible because wolves and foxes are different species with different numbers of chromosomes. The closest thing to a folf in real life is a dogxim, a hybrid between a domestic dog and a Pampas fox (though the latter is more closely related to a dog than to a true fox).

A folf character can show the physical characteristics of both mentioned species, depending on which side is more dominant.

Ethymology[edit]

Less-frequently used names for this type of hybrid include the furry portmanteau terms wolx, wox, wolfox, and fwox. In current social furry fandom, "pholph" commonly refers to furry fan Ryan Dewalt's own fursona, Tet Solfire.
