Welcome[edit]

Hi Tyciol, Welcome to WikiFur! Thank you for registering an account - we look forward to working with you. Let us know if you need any help not already provided. If you would like help creating an article or just editing it, don't hesitate to consult the Furry Book of Style or just contact a curator. Have a nice day!

And you're probably thinking of Stunt Tiger, although there are a number of others, I believe.--Kendricks Redtail 21:09, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
Yeah probably. I find rolling and stuff to be easier when wearing a thick jacket anyway, so it must be even more comfortable with a fursuit. Tyciol 17:07, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

2011[edit]

Hey Ty[edit]

Hey Ty, TGcomix here. Feel like lending a hand out at TrikiWiki.org? Would love to have an article on Equivamp (amongst others) and I can guarantee you won't have a certain moralfag hypocrite reverting your work. Cheers, TGcomix 20:45, 9 September 2011 (EDT)

  • The heck is Triki? Ty 23:28, 14 September 2011 (EDT)

Redirects to user pages[edit]

Hi Tyciol. We don't allow redirects to the user namespace when there could be an article in the main namespace about a subject, as this would effectively give the subject control over the presentation of information about themselves on WikiFur. If you wish to issue a preemptive request for personal exclusion, you may do so. (Note that you can also watch a page in advance of its creation, and be notified via email.) --GreenReaper(talk) 04:33, 29 October 2011 (EDT)

  • Sure no problem, I figured a redirect would make sense if there wasn't an article, and that if people did not agree with content present on a User page that they could then simply edit a redirect to make it into a full article. It seems Equivamp has already done this to Tyciol, which I guess is okay. Ty 14:08, 22 January 2012 (EST)

Interesting archive splitting[edit]

I noticed your separate Admin/Policy + Technical + General categories for your archives. That is neat but it makes me wonder, does it add more work to archiving? Like do you look at each topic one by one and decide where you want to put it? So eventually, the order they are displayed in when split looks different from how they initially appeared in sequence when first posted? I thought about the possibility of adding month-parent single = cats but that is only for standard methods and would clearly overcomplicate in addition to this trinity division. Ty 04:29, 29 October 2011 (EDT)

Yes. It is more work; I do it because I am in a unique situation as many policy decisions and technical questions have been answered on my talk page, and it may be necessary for people to look through the archives to determine the historical basis for a decision (or just to get a general feel for the site's history). This makes it easier for them, as there's less to read through. --GreenReaper(talk) 04:37, 29 October 2011 (EDT)

Sannse censorship[edit]

I'm afraid I will be closing this wiki at the end of the week. I would suggest that you contact GreenReaper of WikiFur, I know that he has helped with hosting in a similar situation.

I got contacted a week ago with the threats to shut down my wiki because she's insisting that because I'm documenting instances of slapping in anime and stuff that I must be 'eroticizing' it as some kind of 'fanservice' and that it somehow breaks the Terms of Use. I completely disagree and can't find where the Terms are broken but this doesn't seem to matter as she's not budging and seems intent on bringing down the hammer regardless of how many explanations or offered concessions I make.

She asked I contact you for suggestions on how to retain the wiki so I was wondering if you might know. I know how to Special:Export so but this only appears to cover articles but not the image files I was hosting on them. At this point since so many images haven't even been identified (I just raided a blog post where the creator didn't attribute them to specific series/episodes/characters) they're very important to identifying some unknown scenes.

She mentioned something about bots that could download images from a wiki for us. Would you be familiar with how to do this? If not then I guess I have to get to the manual downloading which sucks. Ty 06:50, 13 August 2013 (EDT)

Hmm. Actually, I don't believe I've ever hosted a migrating wiki, apart of course from WikiFur itself. The Uncyclopedia crew have more recent experience of moving from Wikia hosting and it might be best to ask them what they did. My largest contribution to that was MediaWikiAuth, which lets people login and transfer their account from another wiki (and which should actually work with current versions of MediaWiki after their gentle ministrations). Wowpedia also left with a lot of files.
When it comes to a wiki-specific tool for image transfer, you might want to look at pywikipediabot's imagetransfer.py. I haven't used it but if you can whip up a family file for your wiki and a target instance of MediaWiki to put it onto (several hosts offer turnkey MediaWiki installs), it may work. There are many tools you can use to create an image of a site; I'd suggest trying HTTrack and see how you go if the image transfer doesn't work out. --GreenReaper(talk) 07:54, 13 August 2013 (EDT)

I tried clicking "retrieve your content" but all I got was "404 Not Found nginx". I think I managed to save most of it if I can find a place to rehost, but I worry for Wikia if Sannse can delete stuff on such specious strawman grounds. Ty 03:00, 27 August 2013 (EDT)
