Furnal Equinox 2010, the first Furnal Equinox, was held March 6-7 at the Doubletree by Hilton Toronto Airport in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The theme, in recognition of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, was Furry Fun & Games.

At the Closing Ceremonies, attendance at the inaugural FE was announced as 330 people, with an estimated 40 fursuits present at the convention. [1] In doing so, the convention set a record for attendance at a Canadian furry event, previously held by C-ACE 2005.

A conbook signed by the Guests of Honour and the members of the Furnal Equinox convention committee was also auctioned off at the convention. The auction raised CA$200 (~US$194) for the Mississauga Humane Society.[2]

Guests of Honor[edit]

Heather Bruton and BushyCat were present as artist guests of honor. Heather created a sponsor print in addition to the conbook cover image,[3] while Bushy contributed to the back cover of the conbook in addition to the artwork on attendees' conbadges.

Registration[edit]

Registration opened on 27 August 2009 for rooms, panels and dealer's tables. Memberships cost $25 to $35 Canadian, depending on the time of registration. Sponsors paying $25 received a t-shirt by Arrowroot.[4]

Dealer tables were sold out prior to the beginning of the convention.

Events[edit]

Notable panels included:

  • Animal Drawing and Creating Comics by Kent Burles, professor at Max the Mutt Animation School in Toronto
  • Furries from A to Z by Kathy Gerbasi, professor and social psychologist
  • Your First Furry Con by Linnaeus, former chairman of Midwest Furfest
  • Furry Literature Q&A by Phil Geusz, furry author and contributor to Anthro magazine
  • History of Furry by Pyat, role-playing game author and "fandom historian"

In keeping with the Fun and Games theme of the convention, a number of GMs offered gaming sessions and signout of tabletop games for the duration of the convention. The Zoo was also open overnight on Saturday.
