Bast, also called Bastet, is an Ancient Egyptian goddess who was often depicted as cat, lioness or beautiful woman with the head of said animals. During the length of Egyptian history she was seen as goddess of war, protection, cats, fertility, motherhood, perfume and ointments. Originally a solar deity, she was later re-imagined as a moon goddess during Greek period of Ancient Egypt.

Bast is one of the most popular Ancient Egyptian deities today, on par with Anubis, Horus and Seth. She is widely mentioned both in furry fandom and in popular culture. Examples include Neil Gaiman's The Sandman and American gods, Mummies Alive! animated series, and such role-playing games as Rifts, World of Darkness and Dungeons & Dragons.
