The Wizard Of Oz, also known as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, is a children's novel written by L. Frank Baum and illustrated by W.W. Denslow. It was originally published in 1900. The book's success prompted the writing of many sequels and prequels. There are 40 official Oz books, 14 of which were written by Baum.
