Conifur Northwest
Conifur Northwest was a furry convention held annually in Seattle-Tacoma (SeaTac) area of Washington state. It was founded in 1998 by James "Tibo" Birdsall; the convention committee was chaired by Dan "Flinthoof" Canaan.
Conifur Northwest was a convention for fans and creators of anthropomorphic comics, books, movies, and related media. Their stated intention was to provide an entertaining, informative, relaxing and inspirational weekend for fans and creators alike through programming and special events. Each year Conifur picked one or two creative persons working in the genre to be guests of honor. Conifur ran from 1998 to 2005, held in September, October, or November of each year. In 2006, the convention was cancelled.
Cancellation[edit]
On May 13, 2006, Conifur Northwest director Dan Canaan announced that the 2006 event had been cancelled, but would attempt to return in 2007. The official website went offline a few months later with no further announcements.
On July 24, 2006, FurFest Northwest, a "replacement" convention in neighboring Idaho, was also cancelled.
In February 2007, Conifur organizers donated virtually all of their original supplies to All Fur Fun and stated to the new convention's staff that Conifur had been cancelled for good. All Fur Fun took place in March 2007 in Spokane, Washington.
RainFurrest was successfully held August 2007 in SeaTac, Washington. There were 370 attendees.
Organization[edit]
Conifur Northwest is also the name of the organization, "a 501(c)(7) Social and Recreation Club". It "is not required to file an annual return with the IRS because its income is less than $25,000."[1]
